The Coronavirus has taken the whole world under its influence. The whole world is under lock-down and the current effects of this pandemic are quite serious. Everything has become standstill but not the Horse Racing in the Tasmanian Cities.

Although the government has given strict orders to close all events across the country, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) are in a different mood. Seeing a potential spreading of this pandemic, the government has ordered to shut down Horse Racing and Greyhound Racing but in some parts of the country, it is still operating.

The RWWA has organized Greyhound Racing despite the shutdown instruction in the country is against community spreading without following the rule. However, there was a restriction for mass gathering, interstate viewers, and a sincere recommendation to cancel non-essential travel.

The racings at current times are happening with limited people adhering to social distancing and there is not a trackside crowd to cheer. For this reason, the doctors of the WA branch have questioned the government as well as RWWA about such events during the most difficult time. They have also criticized the whole racing industry to allow such things amid the effects of COVID-19.

At this time, most of the events and sports have postponed their schedule but the Racing and Wagering Western Australia is on a different mindset. They are quite confident about the proceeding of Horse Racing.

According to the official of RWWA, they have taken all the rigorous measures to fight against the deadly virus and maintain the guidelines without fail. The members of the association also quite concern about the animals and like to be with them and feed them at regular intervals.

They also claim that the traveling exemption in the country is exclusively for the employees but nor for the persons who need to be there on the track. Hence, in the interest of the horses, the government should permit the racing irrespective of the questions and criticism from different corners.

The officials also retaliated to the questions from WA doctors with their point of view. They said it is quite unusual to leave those animals and they need proper caring at this hour so for the welfare of such animals the racing should not be shut down. Lastly, they need an exemption from the rules to take care of the horses and other animals for some time. So that they can bounce back and hit the racecourse with a bang.

Key points highlighted by the RWWA

  • Due to the effect of COVID-19, the Horse Racing only continues behind closed doors and nobody is allowed to the racing except trainers, jockeys, and stewards.
  • The gatherings and meetings are only in the interest of the animals and no other person is allowed to such meetings.

Although the Australian Medical Association doctors questioned and criticized such occurrence, the RWAA has a completely different view. Thus, it is upon the government to take the right decision amid COVID-19.
